When do clocks change in the United States? Everything to know about Daylight Saving Time 2026

Most Americans will need to adjust their clocks soon as daylight saving time begins across the country.

Daylight saving time 2026 will begin in just a few weeks in the United States, and most Americans will need to adjust their clocks.

Each year, the U.S. changes clocks twice. The first shift happens on the second Sunday in March when daylight saving time begins. The second shift occurs on the first Sunday in November, when the country returns to standard time.

When does daylight saving time start in 2026?

The clocks last changed on Sunday, November 2, 2025, and will shift again on Sunday, March 8, 2026, to start daylight saving time. This schedule will remain in effect for nearly eight months.

Do you spring forward or fall back?

After four months on standard time, daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 8. Clocks should be set forward one hour.

The change typically occurs at 2:00 a.m., though most people don’t need to adjust anything manually. Smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices usually update automatically. For devices that don’t, simply move the clock forward one hour before going to bed.

When will clocks change again in 2026?

Daylight saving time will last nearly eight months. In 2026, clocks will revert to standard time on Sunday, November 1. At that point, clocks should be set back one hour.

States and territories that don’t observe daylight saving time

While most of the U.S. follows the twice-yearly clock changes, some states and territories do not. Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe daylight saving time, so clocks there stay the same year-round. Other U.S. territories that skip daylight saving time include Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

Arizona has not observed daylight saving time since 1968, but the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona does, so clocks there change twice a year.
