When does early voting start in Illinois?

Voters in Illinois will have the chance to begin casting their ballot for the 2024 general election this week. Beginning on Thursday, September 25, the majority of towns and counties in the state will open for early voting. Illinois takes third place behind Minnesota and Virginia as far as how long election officials give voters to cast their ballots.

While most towns and counties will open up a handful of polling places on Thursday, some may need to wait until early October. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, October 31. By that date election authorities have to have received the petition to ensure that they are able to send out a ballot before Monday, November 4, which is when they must be returned.
