Who is Margaret Brennan, the moderator of the Walz - Vance VP debate? Career, family, net worth...
CBS’ Margaret Brennan is one-half of tonight’s moderation team. A look at her career, family life, and educational background.
On Tuesday, October 1, CBS News’ Margaret Brennan will co-moderate the 2024 Vice Presidential debate between Democrat Tim Walz and Republican JD Vance. Tim Walz currently serves as the Governor of Minnesota, while JD Vance serves as Ohio’s junior Senator.
While CBS will be hosting the event, broadcasting it on its network, and streaming it on its YouTube channel, there are plenty of viewing options.
Education and background
The CBS host grew up in Connecticut and attended the University of Virginia, where she studied foreign affairs, Middle Eastern studies, and Arabic. She graduated with honors in 2002 and began a career in media shortly after. In 2015, she married Yado Yakub, an attorney by training who currently works as a judge advocate in the US Marine Corps. The couple shares two sons, the first born in 2018 and the second in 2020.
Typically, the vice presidential debate is more focused on foreign policy. As Iran retaliates against Israel for the death of Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, the topics could not be more critical as war looms in the Middle East. The White House repeated over the last year that they were working to avoid a regional war, but at this point, such an event feels inevitable as Israel makes clear their intention to strike back.
Brennan serves as CBS’ foreign affairs correspondent, meaning she has expertise in the topics likely to be discussed tonight. In addition to her foreign affairs, she anchors ‘Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,’ which airs at 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings live from Washington DC. Brennan typically spends time speaking with officials and experts, and domestic and foreign issues are discussed with the guests.
Before joining CBS, she worked as a producer at NBC and MSNBC and as the host of ‘InBusiness with Margaret Brennan’ on Bloomberg Television.
