Who shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson? Has the suspect been arrested?
The CEO was shot and killed outside a New York hotel.
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed outside a New York hotel on Wednesday 4 December at around 6:45 a.m. local time.
He was taken to Mount Sinai hospital and declared dead shortly afterwards.
The CEO, who had a net worth of approximately $42.9 million, was appointed to the role in 2021 having worked for the company since 2004.
Who shot Brian Thompson?
At the time of writing, very little has been made known about the person who shot Thompson, with a description of the suspect simply described as a white male with a black face mask.
He was wearing a cream-coloured jacket, black and white sneakers and a grey backpack according to officials.
Reports also suggest the gunman fled the scene running before hopping on a bicycle, according to CNN, who add that he waited for about 10 minutes before Thompson’s arrival and opened fire from 20 feet away shooting multiple times, striking Thompson.
Investigators are treating the incident as a targeted shooting.
