Who wrote Kate Middleton’s speech to announce that she had cancer?
A friend of the Princess of Wales has said that the wife of the next in line to the throne wanted to quieten speculation about her health.
The Princess of Wales, often referred to by her maiden name Catherine (or Kate) Middleton, through Kensington Palace, delivered a lesson in courage on Friday by releasing a video in which she appears alone, announcing that the reason for her recent absence was that she had been diagnosed with cancer. The Duchess of Cambridge, her other title, seated on a wooden bench in the garden of her home, with a slight trembling in her hands betraying her nervousness, revealed the diagnosis she received following her abdominal surgery in January. She expressed gratitude for the outpouring of affection while requesting respect and privacy for herself and her family.
Kate wrote every word of her speech
We have now learned how this speech came about. According to a close friend of the royal, speaking to the Sunday Times, the words were genuine, and no one from the institution prepared them for her. “It was all her, she wrote every word, everything came together very quickly,” the source said.
According to this person in her circle, the wife of Prince William recorded the video on Wednesday on the grounds of Windsor Castle, wanting to “quell more rumours and speculations about her health,” and felt it was her duty to appear and offer the diagnosis to the people.
The friend added that the personal video communication was chosen by her as she preferred it over a cold written statement, and it “allowed her to speak directly to the public,” which, overwhelmingly, has always stood by her and her family and does not believe in noise and gossip.
New statement from the princes of Wales
The Prince and Princess of Wales have both been deeply moved by the reception of the message and the outpouring of affection received since it was aired on Friday afternoon, as a result of Catherine Middleton’s decision to make the news public to put an end to speculations with the support of her husband, Prince William.
In gratitude, they wanted to convey their thanks to the people through a new message via a spokesperson from Kensington Palace offered on Saturday evening.
“The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message. They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”
