In some areas of the United States, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are accompanied by snowfall. If you want to know if it will be a white Christmas where you live or want to travel to a place where it will snow on December 25, you should keep an eye on the weather forecast.

While nature can be unpredictable, there is some historical data that indicates where it might snow on December 25. However, according to the Weather Prediction Center (WPC), most of the United States will experience a milder, more pleasant winter than average.

Where will it snow in the United States this Christmas 2024?

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has calculated the historical probability of at least 1 inch of snow falling on December 25.

According to weather reports, these are the areas of the United States that are expected to see a white Christmas: Minnesota, Maine, upstate New York, the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as virtually anywhere in Idaho, the Rockies or the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

In the map below, the grey-shaded states show regions where the chance of snow is less than 10 percent. On the other hand, the map shows that Americans living in the north and at higher elevations are the most likely to see snow on Christmas morning.

While these locations have a higher historical chance of seeing at least 1 inch of snow on December 25, actual conditions can vary as current weather patterns will determine snowfall on Christmas Day.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Prediction Center is forecasting with high confidence that above-normal temperatures will occur across the United States from December 15 through December 21, which is not ideal for producing a lot of snow.

On the other hand, Old Farmer’s Almanac has shared the following forecast for Christmas Day 2024 in different areas of the United States:
