Update:
Blade Runner 2099 will be the sequel series produced by Ridley Scott for Amazon Prime Video

The lovers of the sci-fi world created by Ridley Scott almost 40 years ago are in luck. The sequel series to Blade Runner 2049 announced a few months ago, with the definitive name Blade Runner 2099, is already taking shape. The series will be released on Amazon Prime Video, would have about ten episodes, and will continue 50 years after the events of the 2017 film directed by Denis Villeneuve.

A growing universe

This has been announced by Amazon Studios, stating that the series is already in production. Ridley Scott himself -director of the original movie starring Harrison Ford- will serve as Executive Producer of the series, through his company Scott Free Productions, while Silka Luisa, showrunner of Shining Girls -coming soon on Apple TV- will be in charge of the script.

Full screen

Although at the moment he has not been officially stated, it is said that Scott has shown interest in directing some of the episodes of the series. The production of Blade Runner 2099 has been declared a priority within Amazon Studios, so its premiere may not be as far away as we might think, but for the moment, they are still looking for more writers, and its production date is still to be determined.

This will expand the already vast world of Blade Runner even further, following the 1982 film and Blade Runner 2049, which featured Ford himself, plus Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas. In addition, last November saw the release of Blade Runner: Black Lotus, a spin-off anime that can be seen on Crunchyroll. In this way, Scott will be involved in no less than three TV series, in addition to the already released Raised by Wolves -on its way to its second season-, and one based on Alien, another of his original creations.
