Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi promises "wonderful cameos"
Rupert Friend, the actor behind the Grand Inquisitor, anticipates the presence of familiar characters from the franchise in the upcoming Star Wars series.
In dark times, fear and insecurity reign; in the age of the Galactic Empire, the dark side of the Force has taken control of the galaxy. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Disney+'s new limited series, is set in an era of greatness for Darth Sidious' side. Rupert Friend, who plays the Grand Inquisitor, has dropped the possibility of numerous cameos in the series, which takes place a decade after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
“If it's possible to be any more excited than folks already are, I would be,” has stated the actor in an interview with Hey U Guys. “I think it's is one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon. I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films.” He continues: “You know, we can't obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part. And wonderful cameos from people I obviously can't tell you, but Easter eggs galore.”
Who is the Grand Inquisitor?
The Grand Inquisitor appears in the Obi-Wan Kenobi teaser trailer. He is the leader of the Imperial Inquisition, a body of Force-sensitive individuals who have succumbed to the dark side. They answer directly to Darth Vader and almost all were former Jedi. Ten years after Order 66 was issued, the few surviving Jedi are hiding in the shadows. Meanwhile, the Inquisition searches for them in order to put a definitive end to the old Jedi Order, or actually, to put an end to what remains. So far, we have only seen this character in Star Wars Rebels, as well as in some comics.
Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on May 27 on Disney+. The series, which will have six episodes, will debut with the first two episodes on the same day.
