Summer Game Fest 2022 confirms date and time of its opening gala

Summer Game Fest 2022 marks its inaugural gala on the calendar. The space hosted by Geoff Keighley will be held next June 9 at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Its official account on social media notes that it will be "a cross-industry showcase" with "announcements, reveals and more."

E3 2022 cancelation prompted Keighley himself to set himself up as the only event to unite the video game industry at the start of the summer. June is a landmark date for companies and fans, and Summer Game Fest will be the place that will take the lion's share of the weight.

Last year's gala was crowned with the first in-game trailer for Elden Ring. From Software and Bandai Namco decided to give the producer the opportunity to present to the world what one of the most anticipated video games of that season looked like. Alongside him appeared Death Stranding's Director's Cut, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Metal Slug Tactics, among others.

Other companies such as Microsoft are betting on having a stage all to themselves. The Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase will take place a few days later, on June 12. Here we will see what the division's studios and "other partners from around the world" have in store. Naturally, Starfield is one of the highlights. Almost a month before the dates when E3 used to take place, there are still companies and publishers that have not yet announced if they will have their presentation. A few months ago, Electronic Arts decided to cancel EA Play 2022, commenting that "we'll reveal much more about these projects when the time is right for each of them". It remains to be seen what other big names such as Nintendo, PlayStation and Ubisoft have planned, or not, for the coming months.
