Deadpool in Doctor Strange 2? The film's screenwriter had him in mind for a cameo

Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has some great surprises, but what its screenwriter had planned was on another level.

Deadpool in Doctor Strange 2? The film's screenwriter had him in mind for a cameo

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios' latest theatrical release, is a worldwide box office success despite plummeting ticket sales in its second weekend of release. Still, it is already the second most successful film of 2022 behind only The Batman's $688 million global gross. Part of its success is surely a multiversal madness that brings us some cameos as unexpected as surprising, although many others rumored finally have not ended up being fulfilled.

This is the case of Deadpool, a character who has just landed in the MCU after Disney's purchase of Fox and who is already being worked on a new movie. Was it the right time to integrate him? According to some rumors that placed him in the film, yes. For Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange's screenwriter, the answer is also yes, they thought about his possible cameo.

The Merc with a Mouth in the Multiverse of Madness?

Michael Waldron, the main screenwriter of Doctor Strange 2, had Deadpool's cameo on the table, a plausible possibility, although finally discarded, along with many others. "Yeah, we talked about it," told Waldron to ComicBook during an interview. "I think we talked about everything in this movie. So, [it] would've been crazy to not raise that, but it ultimately didn't feel like... It just didn't feel the right place. But yeah, of course we talked about it."

Even the journalist James Clement goes further and has assured in The Weekly Planet, through his own sources, that Marvel Studios had planned a post-credits scene starring Deadpool, ensuring that up to a total of 5 characters were eliminated from the final footage, including Michael Fassbender's Magneto, the original Mordo, Ghost Rider or Deadpool himself.

Surely it would have been the ideal time to introduce Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth to the MCU, as at some point in the future it will have to be integrated into this same universe. We will see how Marvel Studios will approach this and other issues concerning newly acquired franchises to integrate them into their universe.
