Madden NFL 23 gets revamped with FieldSENSE and gameplay changes

EA SPORTS Madden NFL 23 is revamped with FieldSENSE, a new technology behind the gameplay that will make the game more realistic and spectacular.

Update:
Madden NFL 23 gets revamped with FieldSENSE and gameplay changes

As we mentioned in our article on the reveal of the covers of the new Madden NFL 23, a few days ago we had the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida to visit the offices of EA Tiburon and play the new version of their football title, getting to know all the improvements the gameplay of this year's edition will have. But first, take a look at the gameplay trailer just released by EA Sports:

FieldSENSE

One of the main changes that Madden NFL 23 brings with it is FieldSENSE. This consists of the collection of more than 400 animations that complement the game experience, bringing more life to the field compared to Madden NFL 22. This consists, for example, when you were blocked by a defender, normally the other players did nothing, now in the new version the players will be able to support the play to change the momentum of tackling. Although it will only be available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, it will bring gameplay improvements in the following points:

Constant physics calculations

FieldSENSE will also use a series of calculations on different factors that will contribute to the fluidity of the play. It will take elements such as weight, volume and even the standing of the players to simulate the behavior of the play.

Tackles in the air

Previously in Madden NFL 22 when a player made a reception in the air, the defense could rarely really do anything. Now, this has changed, since the defense will be able to intervene when the ball is about to reach an offensive player. This is undoubtedly one of the changes that all sports fans had been asking the developers for.

Hit as much as you can

Now when you have momentum in the tackle, an indicator will appear for you to press one of the buttons (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox). This will partly influence you to win the play, either by taking away the defender or, if necessary, taking out the attacker. This is a type of Quick Time Event in which several factors will enter into the equation, from the play, the players involved and the player's position.

Skill-based passes

In short, this is one of the most radical changes in gameplay. To make a pass more accurate, an indicator will appear that we will control with the right stick. In fact, this new mode will allow us to determine if we send the ball a little further, in case the offensive player has this advantage, or delayed, if the defender is behind us. In addition to this, there is a new animation that allows players to turn and receive. We were able to test this motion more than once during our Hands-On session and it feels quite natural. It is important to highlight that this new feature can be deactivated, if players prefer to play in classic mode as in previous versions of Madden.

360° Dukes

Another change will be in the agility of the players to dodge. Now with the left trigger you will be able to make quicker dodges to evade a block. In fact, this movement, mixed with the X button in the momentum will be key if they are used with the right timing.

Football fundamentals

For the development of the gameplay, the game will take into account the coverage, passes, assignment and even the anticipation of the players. This will be much more appreciated in the plays where we want to hold the ball too much with the quarterback. Compared to the previous version of Madden NFL, you could have a lot of time to think about a play with the QB already with the ball in hand without any repercussions. Now, thanks to a series of consultations they had with sports specialists, they cut those times because normally "QBs don't have that much time to think about a play", so the defense will address it right away.

Playbook simplification

As a result of a series of analyses carried out internally by EA Tiburon, it was concluded that most players do not use many of the moves in the playbook. Therefore these have been cut by 20 to 30%, leaving the most used ones to simplify the choice at the time of being on the field.

Franchise mode cornerstones

The Franchise mode has always been characterized as one of the cornerstones of the Madden franchise. Regarding this mode, the development team showed the 3 main adjustments that will make it more complete: Free Agency, Franchise 2.0 and deeper immersion.

Free Agency

Now players will have motivations and tags that will modify their goals as players. For example, Jarvis Landry's main motivation will be to play for a team that is closer to home, Russell Gage will want to play with Tom Brady or Von Miller will want to play for a team with a chance to win a Super Bowl. These Tags in turn can be obtained or developed as a role-playing game by being an MVP, the best rookie or a good mentor. These will come in the help menu or on the player's card. All these elements will undoubtedly influence the choices made by the artificial intelligence when making transfers.

Franchise 2.0

Madden NFL 23 will have more scouts to search for multiple positions on each team, revealing more players by attributes or classes within the draft. At the same time, the hub, as well as the dashboard, will feature a number of improvements.

Deeper immersion

The logic in the draft and trades is better designed, since the artificial intelligence will not be able to make offers for players that repeat a position. Another change is that unlike Madden NFL 22, when making an offer, this will be done immediately and we will not have to wait a week as in the previous version.

Ultimate Team

This modality will also have a greater focus so that the cards represent what happens in real life with on-the-fly compensations among other changes.

Improved presentation

Another improvement we will see is that the pre-match presentation of the players will be determined by whether they have won or lost the previous match. So we will be able to see everyone celebrating in the locker room or, in contrast, everyone will be more concentrated if they are coming from a defeat.

Madden 99 Club

In this mode you will no longer be a rookie, as you will now have a more professional player experience, this is undoubtedly another of the differentiators that will definitely give a lot to talk about.

Players who pre-order before July 22, will get some additional in-game currency, the opportunity to have cross-generation console migration and 3-day early access. Furthermore, EA Play users will be able to access the game for 10 hours 3 days before its release.

Madden NFL 23 will be released worldwide on August 19 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
