God of War Ragnarök has not announced its release date, but the studio requests patience
The sequel to the 2018 title is still slated for 2022, although Santa Monica Studio has yet to announce a more specific date.
Kratos fans are getting impatient. The God of War will return to PS4 and PS5 in God of War Ragnarök, the sequel to the title released in 2018. Amid rumors of a delay, already denied by Sony Santa Monica, the release date announcement was expected very soon. However, for the moment it has not occurred. With no State of Play in sight, the creative director of the studio, Cory Barlog, has asked fans for a little more patience.
"Dear all, if it were up to me I would share all the information when I know about it," he wrote on his personal Twitter account. "But it is not up to me. So please, be patient. I promise things will be shared at the earliest possible moment they can be. We make games for you. We get to make games because of you."
The game will be released in 2022, according to the studio
Much has been said about the possibility that God of War: Ragnarök may end up being delayed to 2023, as well as other highly anticipated titles such as the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Starfield. However, Sony Santa Monica has insistently denied all reports that have suggested this option. Cory Barlog himself dropped it on Twitter and the animation director, Bruno Velázquez, verbalized it forcefully: "Ragnarök is coming this year". Of course, there can always be a change of plans, but official sources are confident that 2022 is the year.
God of War: Ragnarök will be released on both PS4 and PS5. It will be the last one set in Norse mythology, so all these storylines will foreseeably be closed in this title. Will there be more Kratos in the future? Where will his new adventures take place? At the moment everything is secret. We'll have to wait and see what this new and long-awaited chapter starring the Greek deity has in store for us.
