NetEase acquires Quantic Dream, creators of Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human and Star Wars Eclipse

It is becoming common to see companies buying each other in the video game industry. It is not something new, as it has been going on for many years, but it has become commonplace in recent months. Just a few hours after reporting that Tencent and Sony have made a joint investment to acquire an important part of From Software, now the Chinese giant NetEase has bought Quantic Dream.

It is worth remembering that in 2019, NetEase already set its eyes on Quantic Dream and made a small investment to take over part of the studio. Now it's official: the acquisition is complete and we can already say that the team behind interactive stories like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human is theirs. Also, let's not forget that they are currently working on Star Wars Eclipse, the first video game in the LucasFilms saga set in the High Republic. The figures of the operation have not been disclosed.

The era of big purchases

The year 2022, which is drawing closer every day, will be remembered, among other things, for the news that Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard, the giant behind Diablo and Call of Duty, among dozens of studios, sagas and games. A deal worth almost $70 billion has not yet been fully completed, due to the need for various agencies and parts of the industry to approve the acquisition.

And just this morning, without warning, we witnessed how Tencent and Sony Interactive Entertainment have taken 16.3% and 14.1% of From Software, respectively. A studio known by all for the Dark Souls saga, among other titles as acclaimed as Bloodborne and Elden Ring. In this link you have all the details of the millionaire operation.
