Spawn reboot moves forward with Jamie Foxx to star and new writers confirmed

As announced in 2018, the film reboot of Spawn will feature actor Jamie Foxx as the main protagonist to give life to Al Simmons. Although since then nothing more has been known about the project of the celebrated demonic antihero from Todd McFarlane's comics, we have finally received an update.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the new film is going ahead and stronger than ever. The media reiterates the well-known actor as the big star of this new adaptation and confirms the signing of a new team of screenwriters, two of them with plenty of experience in superhero film adaptations.

Thus, the popular actor will once again return to comic book adaptations with Spawn, giving life to its protagonist, Al Simmons, capable of transforming himself into the powerful antihero born from hell itself. Previously, Foxx has had considerable involvement in superhero films such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Power of Electro, Project Power or the more recent Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as starring in one of Netflix's latest vampire crazes with Day Shift.

And after Todd McFarlane's recent promise of "a huge announcement" about the Spawn reboot film by Blumhouse, both Jamie Foxx and screenwriters Scott Silver, Malcolm Spellman and Mateo Mixom, the first two responsible for Joker and the upcoming Captain America: New World Order, respectively, are finally confirmed. And although the third writer is largely unknown, this new group of writers is expected to do a job on par with McFarlane's original work.

In 2018, Blumhouse expressed satisfaction with the Jamie Foxx signing. "We are thrilled Jamie Foxx will be playing the title role in our movie adaptation of Spawn. He is an incredible actor and a huge fan of the Spawn Universe that Todd McFarlane created. With the depth of talent Jamie can commit to the role and Todd at the helm bringing the world of Spawn to life, we could not be more excited for this film."

The new Spawn adaptation does not yet have a theatrical release date.
