Henry Cavill’s first words after his return as Superman are about Snyder, the suit, and more
The famous actor has given his first interview after his confirmed return as the Man of Steel
Henry Cavill is back as Superman. The famous actor recovered his role as the Man of Steel in the DCEU after his cameo in Black Adam, opening up the door to new individual stories, as well as alongside other characters, in a new DC Studios era that’s under James Gunn’s supervision.
After sharing a video on his own Instagram account in which he announced his comeback, Cavill joined the Happy Sad Confused podcast presented by Josh Horowitz to offer his first interview since the announcements. Here, he commented on some of the key choices that were made for his cameo, how the scene in Black Adam was conceived, the future of his character and more.
Henry Cavill’s first interview since returning as Superman
Henry Cavill began his journey as Superman in 2013 with Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder. After appearing in both Batman v Superman and Justice League (in both the cinematic version and Snyder Cut), his place in the DC universe was not very clear. While he can't hint at anything right now, he did promise some big surprises in the future: “Right now I can’t share anything, … but in time, I’ll be able to share and everyone will hear all the exciting things to come.”
Cavill also explained how the cameo came to be, as well as the choice of suit being that of Man of Steel. As it turns out, the proposal to come back then adn there in a post-credits scene didn’t happen until very recently, right as he was filming the third season of The Witcher. He has to ask permission to the production of said series to travel to the UK because of a secret reason: “It was so top secret we couldn’t tell them what.”
About the outfit chosen, he admits that it’s a very symbolic thing: “I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit, it was incredibly important to me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”
He also didn’t mince words of fondness for Zack Snyder after seeing a short video message welcoming him back into the mix, calling for Cavill to reflect on “their early flying scenes” and hoping to work together again. After all, he was the director that chose him for Man of Steel and that gave him the opportunity to become the Superman of a whole new generation. The actor responded by saying “He’s a lovely man, and I am enormously appreciative for everything he’s done for me. … Those are formative memories of mine, career-wise. It is when everything changed. I remember them fondly. … Zack, if you are watching… Thank you, my friend.”
Cavill took the opportunity to thank his fans for their support, and promised that big things were coming in Superman’s future in the movies: “There is such a bright future ahead for the character, and I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”
