Pokémon developer hints at a Nintendo Switch successor

Creatures, one of the developers of The Pokémon Company, has hinted at a next gen console in a job offering.

Update:
Pokémon developer hints at a Nintendo Switch successor

The fact that Nintendo is working on a successor for the Switch is a given. Every company looks towards the future and starts working on their next products from the moment they launch the previous hardware. The question is when will the transition happen. Creatures - a studio linked to The Pokémon Company - has revealed that they’re already looking for a character model artist for “research and development for other next-generation hardware”.

As is to be expected, the job offer doesn’t go into details about this, so we don’t know for sure if this new device they’re talking about is a more powerful Switch or a true successor in every meaning of the word. They also make no mention about what this new game could be, but they did namedrop Pokémon Ranger, PokéPark and Detective Pikachu. The former’s sequel is already in development, while the rest of the titles mentioned are spin-offs that have been in the vaults for over a decade without new entries.

Pokémon returns in November

The Pokémon Company released Pearl and Diamond’s remakes during the last months of 2021, while Pokémon Legends: Arceus saw the light of day just a few months after. Now, Gamefreak is preparing for its next big launch, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This new adventure will let us explore the Paldea Region (inspired by Spain), and it’ll be the 9th Pokémon generation.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will release on November 18 2023, one of the Nintendo Switch’s big exclusives for 2022. In MeriStation we’ve already been able to try the game for ourselves, so don’t forget to read up on our first impressions of this new generation.

The Nintendo Switch just turned 5 years old, but the Kyoto based company is still adamant that the hardware just crossed the halfway point of its life cycle. Will we have a new console sooner than expected? We’ll have to wait and see.
