Nintendo is considering raising Switch prices in the future

The video games giant confirms that nothing is set in stone right now, but they’re leaving the door open for the possibility.

Nintendo is considering raising Switch prices in the future

The Nintendo Switch will not be getting a price hike as of now, but the Japanese company behind it won’t say no to doing so in the future. During a recent investors meeting, attendants asked whether or not the console would see an increment to its current sale price. At this moment, nothing like this is planned to happen but they did admit their team has been studying the situation, according to Bloomberg.

Last summer, Nintendo stated that they had no plans to raise prices for the Switch.

High inflation has altered all sorts of products’ prices, including video game consoles. Sony Interactive Entertainment was the first name to dare hike their prices, announcing a coming rise to both PlayStation 5 models in the majority of territories where it’s available. In doing so, their digital only model will now cost $499.99 USD, while the physical disc model is now a hefty $549.99 USD. In both cases, a price hike of almost $50 dollars.

Xbox is holding right now, but it might only be a matter of time

When PlayStation announced their plans to raise the prices of their current generation, Microsoft denied rumors that their company would do the same. But Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, warned that it’s a real possibility given that both their hardware and subscription services will need to keep growing. Let’s not forget the fact that Microsoft still sells their consoles at a loss, unlike Nintendo, who profits from every Switch sold.

Nintendo Switch has already surpassed 114 million units sold during its lifetime. The house of Mario has had a strong year when you talk about software, with huge launches like Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Bayonetta 3. November 18 will see the release of Pokémon’s newest generation, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. In 2023 we have the long awaited release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, set for launch on May 12.
