New DC Universe will connect movies, series, animation and video games, says James Gunn
DC Studios' new chief creative officer says his plans call for a DC superhero universe that is more interlinked than ever before.
James Gunn is more active than ever on social media answering fans' questions about his new role at the helm of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, a creative duo that aims to create a new cohesive and more interconnected DC Universe than ever before. James Gunn himself recently admitted this on Twitter, clarifying that his idea is that the new DC Universe connects all kinds of formats to make it a more complete and solid product. And this means movies, series, animation, and video games; any fan's dream.
The new DC Universe will explore unprecedented formats
Until now, the so-called DC Extended Universe had a poorly cohesive direction among its own films, with virtually nothing to do with other DC formats such as series, animated films, and series or video games, beyond the occasional wink such as Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Now, with James Gunn at the helm of DC's new era, the filmmaker intends to connect all of the company's products to levels never seen before: "The DC Universe will be connected across film, television and animation," as well as assuring that there will be "more DC character TV series".

On the other hand, another fan asked him if the video games are part of the same plan as the rest of DC products and if they will be part of the same universe, to which Gunn did not hesitate to answer with a categorical "Yes", implying that the next DC video games will also be part of the DC Universe.
James Gunn just premiered The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for Marvel Studios on Disney+; when he releases Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in theaters in 2023, the filmmaker will be done with Marvel for good to become the singing voice of DC. Although he already is.
