Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment join forces once again in a special Nintendo Direct that gives us a deeper look into The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Super Mario Bros. Movie gets its second official trailer

After an impactful first showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer a little more than a month ago, it seems like Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment are finally ready to show us a little bit more of what we can expect when the long awaited movie finally hits theaters in 2023.

Shown today during another Nintendo Direct Livestream (which you can find further ahead), this new trailer finally revealed how a lot more of the cast will look and sound. We’ve already seen Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Toad (or at least, the main toad), but seeing Peach in motion is pretty exciting.

Once again presented by Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri, Anya Taylor-Joy and Seth Rogen sent small messages to the fans talking about their roles in the movie as Princess Peach and Donkey Kong. This time we got glimpses of the action that’s to come, from a Halberd Wielding, battle-ready Princess to an apparent homage to Super Smash Bros. We even get a glimpse of Mario Kart in there!

A Star-Studded cast

The Super Mario Bros. Movie stars Chris Pratt as the new voice of Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as King Bowser, Keegan Michael Key as Toad and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. Other big names in the movie include Kevin Michael Richardson, Fred Armisen, Sebastian Maniscalco and of course, Charles Martinet in what seem to be a couple cameos.

The movie will release on April 7, 2023, and is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with music composed by Brian Tyler and the legendary Koji Kondo, and Miyamoto and Melendri acting as producers on the film. Distributed under Universal Pictures, it’s almost a guarantee that we’ll see some overlap between this movie and the soon to be opened Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood.
