Dragon Age: Dreadwolf resurfaces with a key cinematic that explains who Solas is
The BioWare developed title is now in its alpha phase and can seemingly be played from beginning to end, although there is still no official release date.
In celebration of Dragon Age Day, BioWare has given the very dedicated fans of the saga a small gift. The long awaited title from the Mass Effect developers, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, has resurfaced once again, this time through a short cinematic that goes deep into Solas’ origins. It’s a small animated clip, which means that they still haven’t shown the game in action.
“We wanted to close out this year with a little treat to celebrate Dragon Age Day in our own way by sharing a key cinematic from the game. Enjoy!”, says the team in their official blog post.
“I knew him as Solas, a thoughtful name obsessed with dreams, but long ago he had a different name”, speaks the video’s narrator, who sounds suspiciously like a certain beloved dwarven party member from the original trilogy. “Fen’Harel, the Dreadwolf. Ancient elven god of lies, or heroic rebel against tyranny, depending on which story you believe.” The narrator goes on to explain how Solas managed to defeat the elven gods in a “final battle” and imprison them beyond a veil that was created to separate the worlds. Now, however, he seeks to break this veil and destroy the world, and this sounds like some supervillain stuff, so we can expect the new game’s protagonist to try and stop him.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development is going smoothly
Back in October, BioWare general manager, Gary Mckay, celebrated proudly on their official blog the fact that the game had reached the Alpha phase of development. “In my last blog, back in February, I talked about the next Dragon Age™ game entering the production phase”, he wrote. “Well, we’ve come a very long way since then, and the team is incredibly happy to announce a huge step forward in the development of the game you now know as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf™: We have just completed our Alpha milestone!”
As such, the title can now be played from beginning to end, although there is still a lot of development left to do. We can imagine that they’re talking about balancing, visuals, music, and, of course, lots of polish. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC at a future date. The franchise’s Netflix anime, Dragon Age: Absolution, releases on the streaming platform on December 9.
