Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion review scores around the internet
The Crisis Core remaster that’s almost a remake, considered to be one of the best games on the PSP, shows off how well it’s aged and how it’s been modernized.
A last hurrah for Final Fantasy VII’s 25th anniversary. Crisis Core Reunion, one of the last heavy hitters to release in 2022, is a remaster of the original PSP game that for a while looked so good many of us thought it was a full remake of the title. A game that has been surprising enough to be called the best possible version of this prequel story, where one of the major gripes with reviewers has been the lack of surprises or new additional content. There’s so little changes to the game that even those aspects of the game few people liked (like the slot machine mechanics) were kept untouched.
Back in its day, the original received an accumulated score of 83 on Metacritic, and was considered one of the best titles on PSP, but it seems like time has changed that opinion slightly. Even when it’s not a bad average score at all, it’s lack of novelty results in a lower score than before. Crisis Core wasn’t just an action RPG, but a game dependent on the technological capabilities of Sony’s portable console. Without those limitations, the design of the game causes the seams that hold the game together to be very visible. However, a 7/10 is still a decent score that speaks of an enjoyable, if flawed, experience.
