Guerrilla confirms a multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe
The studio is looking for new hires to develop this experience, of which there are still no specific details.
Aloy will continue fighting in the post-apocalyptic world of Horizon Forbidden West, but Guerrilla Games is also working on an online multiplayer experience set in the same universe. As of this moment we only had some clues and assumptions without any official confirmation, but the studio has gone out of their way to make it public.
“We are continuing to create epic solo adventures for Aloy. But there is more. A new internal team is developing a separate Online Project set in Horizon’s universe. Featuring a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look, friends will be able to explore the majestic wilds of Horizon together,” said the studio in their announcement/job offer.
Guerrilla Games has opened up a wide variety of new positions in their studio both in the team focused on single player titles and in the new team working on the Online Project. They also revealed the vacant spots they have for external projects. Back in November of 2021, another job offer had mentioned the existence of this project, in which they were looking for people with experience on “games as a service” products.
What are the next Horizon games?
Horizon Forbidden West has expanded Aloy’s adventures in her world. Released this past February, it even managed to be one of the Game of the Year candidates during The Game Awards 2022. Geoff Keighley’s show also showed off the first footage for Burning Shores, a huge expansion for the game that’ll take place in what used to be Los Angeles. It’s launching on April 19, exclusively for PS5.
PlayStation VR2 is also launching alongside Horizon Call of the Mountain, a project developed from the ground up as a Virtual Reality game. Aloy won’t be the protagonist, however, but Guerrilla promised that the new hero will meet her at some point of their journey. Both the VR headset and the VR game are releasing on February 22, 2023.
