Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will let you use a blaster while fighting with your Lightsaber
The new Cal Kestis adventure will allow you to use five different types of weapons, including a hilted saber like Kylo Ren’s.
The blaster on Cal Kestis’ belt isn’t just for show, since it’ll be usable during combat. This was confirmed by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Amussen during an interview with Game Informer, where he also revealed that there’ll be at least five variations of weapons to choose from.
“A lot of it depends on the enemy that you’re coming across. It’s advantageous to use certain types of stances against certain types of enemies, and it’s up to the player to figure that out.” The user will have to analyze each enemy and change up their tactics and gear to find the one that fits the most. Amongst the options you’ll find the possibility of fighting with a regular lightsaber, a double bladed lightsaber, or a blaster+saber combo.
“It really speaks to where we find Cal in this part of the story,” said Asmussen. “It’s five years since the first game, and the dark times are still in full swing. He’s an unconventional Jedi, and he has to do unconventional things”
Cal Kestis, like Kylo Ren
Another option you can choose from is wielding a lightsaber like Kylo Ren did in the sequel trilogy, the one with the crossguard that is also small lightsabers, and that looked like a medieval longsword. “It’s a more confident approach,” Asmussen says. “It’s weighty; it’s beefy. But you have to be very measured on how you use it because the timing windows are longer with the blade.”
As for exploration, there are plenty of updates to the first game’s systems that’ll improve the way in which you traverse the world. This includes a new grappling hook to reach usually inaccessible places and the ability to use mounts both to travel and fight. “It’s much of a wider Metroidvania approach.”
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is releasing on March 17, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
