TCL presents NXTWEAR S and RayNeo X2 its innovative augmented reality glasses
NXTWEAR S and RayNeo X2, TCL’s upcoming AR glasses showed their extraordinary features (and even their Steam Deck compatibility) during CES 2023.
TCL, pioneer in display technology, presented its RayNeo X2 and NXTWEAR S augmented reality (AR) smart glasses at CES 2023, held in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 5 to 8.
RayNeo X2
These binocular glasses include waveguide AR Micro-leds that integrate a number of new interactive features to create augmented reality experiences. These will be the world's first glasses to have a full-color AR Micro-led binocular waveguide AR display.
Hands-On
During the test we did, we saw some of its functions such as being able to use them as hands-free, take pictures, video or time-lapse through an interface that emulates floating in a three-dimensional manner and we were even able to listen to music through the small speakers placed on the sides. The feature that surprised us the most was the real-time translation, with which one of the developers started talking to us in Mandarin and in real time we saw how it was translating through English subtitles. All these features will be supported by our smartphone, especially to be able to view the content we have captured in the same way as with Ray-Ban Stories from Facebook.
On a technical level, these glasses have a high contrast ratio (CR) of up to 100,000:1 and an image brightness of up to 1,000 nits, making it possible to perceive the interface well both indoors and outdoors. Inside, they have a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, enabling an intelligent GPS navigation system that will use simultaneous localization and mapping as well as gesture recognition. The map shows the reference points. Other features include image stabilization, night mode, and whisper mode that prevent sound leakage when talking to someone.
A development project will be launched by TCL RayNeo in the first quarter of 2023 and innovative developers will be invited to join the project to create creative functions with augmented reality.
TCL NXTWEAR S
These portable viewing glasses, which for the time being will only be available in the American market, feature a screen as well as integrated audio. With these, it's like watching a high-definition screen equivalent to 130 inches from 13 feet away.
Inside, there are two next generation 1080p micro OLED panels and a noise cancellation mode.
Ideal for Steam Deck
In the demo they gave us, they connected a Steam Deck through the USB-C port and the experience was extraordinary and immersive. This way of using them will undoubtedly be a great alternative for users of Valve's platform, as it takes the console to another level, since the sharpness provided by these glasses enhances the handheld's attributes.
TCL RayNeo X2 will be available to the developer community in selected regions by the end of Q1 2023. TCL NXTWEAR S will go on sale in the United States in Q1 2023 with a suggested retail price of $399.
