House of the Dragon triumphs at the 2023 Golden Globes, wins Best Drama Series
HBO's original spin-off wins one of the top awards of the event, beating out heavy contenders like Better Call Saul, Separation, and The Crown.
The first Game of Thrones spin-off has walked the red carpet of the 2023 Golden Globes to take one of the most coveted awards of the gala. House of the Dragon, an HBO original production, was up for two awards, and although actress Emma D'Arcy - who plays the adult version of Rhaenyra Targaryen - walked away empty-handed, the series managed to win for best drama series.
The award reaffirms the good reviews received in the national and international press, which have praised the quality of a product whose greatest challenge was being part of an award-winning saga that set a very high level. Also competing in the same category were great series such as Ozark, Better Call Saul, The Crown, and Separation.
House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones focusing on the Targaryens.
Rhaenyra Targaryen was appointed by her father, King Viserys, as the successor to the Seven Kingdoms. Named Dragon Princess, the young woman soon discovers that her ascent to the throne will be complicated and tortuous. House of the Dragon unfolds through two timelines: the first follows a young Rhaenyra, who begins to learn the ins and outs of how the game of thrones works; in the second, as an adult, she will have to face the Targaryen internal wars.
The Dance of the Dragons is coming, a bloody and fratricidal war that will confront two antagonistic factions of the Targaryens. Who will be the ruler who sits on the Iron Throne? Will she reign over a kingdom of ashes?
House of the Dragon has been renewed for a second season, although its premiere will not take place this year 2023, but next year. HBO is also preparing a series of new Game of Thrones spin-offs, including a Jon Snow series, which has not yet been greenlit by the platform.
