Apex Legends: Revelry, All You Need to Know About Season 16

We spoke with some members of the Respawn Entertainment team about the latest features in Battle Royale.

Apex Legends: Revelry, All You Need to Know About Season 16

This February 14th, right in the middle of Valentine's Day, Apex Legends: Revelry launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. As part of this release, thanks to Electronic Arts, we had the opportunity to speak with the developers at Respawn Entertainment to learn more about the new features.

How they planned the changes

When asked if they used the community gameplay stats as a reference for the new changes, Evan Nikolich, Senior Design Director, told us that their approach as developers is that they are really committed to having a philosophy that evolves the game itself. They've been adding new content, legends, maps, and weapons every season. This is where they stop and look at what they have created, evaluate the possibilities, and grow the game, revitalize it, bring something new with fresh perspectives for older players and attract new players.

The Most Radical Change in Season 16

Talking about the main evolution in this Battle Royale update, Nikolich emphasized that the reclassification of most of the Legends was one of the most important, as they refined them to make them more fun. They worked on roles like the Recon class, which used to just focus on looking for the next ring. Now they can detect where other players are, which helps them understand the battleground better because they can even put that data on the map. There will also be classes that focus more on zone control, while support classes such as the Lifeline will now have the ability to build blue containers or create assault class items with the container, as well as being able to carry more ammunition.

About Apex Legends in Portable Mode in Steam Deck

Another of the points we discussed with Evan was how the game runs on Valve's portable platform, to which he responded that for the moment they will remain focused on the PC version without leaving aside that the platform seems to him "a great piece of hardware that does a great job to play Apex".

Focus on new players

When we talked about the new section focused on new players, Aaron Rutledge, Director of Experience Design, told us that since they see a significant amount of new players every season, they have done a lot of research on how they experience the game their first time. That is why they wanted to create a place with a little less pressure.

About Catalyst Reception

One thing we couldn't leave out was how the newest legend has been doing, to which Senior Designer Devan McGuire replied that it has been quite positive. Although he mentioned it early on in his debut, there was some speculation as to what his abilities would bring to Battle Royale. Over time, people have come to accept her abilities well, as she has a healthy pick rate overall and a good win percentage, although there is still a lot of work to be done to meet expectations, or at least what people expect from her.

What are the most affected characters in Apex Legends: Revelry?

When we wanted to delve deeper into the famous Legend changes that occur each season, Devan McGuire emphasized that it will be a determining factor who controls the knowledge of where the Rings will be. This will increase the value of previously undervalued Legends such as Rampart or Catalyst (who will now have these abilities). Another change we will see is Crypto, as he will now be able to better detect where the enemies are and thus find the battles.

Apex continues without ray tracing

A recurring question from our side is to know if we would finally get ray tracing in this update, to which Nikolich replied that not yet.

Team Deathmatch for a long time

When asked about the temporality of this new mode, Marty Wong, designer of the studio, replied that this mode will have its own space for three weeks and then, on March 7, it will be included in the mixtape to become permanent.
