A ‘Black Panther’ actor wants to play Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe

After Alan Ritchson and Jake Gyllenhaal, Winston Duke is the next one to throw his hat into the Bat-ring to announce his desire to become the next Batman.

It’s almost a given that James Gunn is still thinking about the matter, but the fact is that there aren’t even rumors about who will be the lucky actor who will play Batman in the new DC Universe. The first candidate to volunteer himself for the role was Alan Ritchson, known for his starring role in ‘Reacher’, but obviously, he is not the only one, with Jake Gyllenhaal also raising his voice. The last actor to present a candidacy was Winston Duke, known for ' Black Panther’.

Duke plays the burly M’Baku in the MCU film, in addition to also making an appearance in ‘Us’, by Jordan Peele, as well as recently in Ryan Gosling’s ‘The Fall Guy’. In a recent interview with Slashfilm, Duke spoke about the possibility, revealing that he would be delighted to step into the shoes of Bruce Wayne.

“Listen, man, can you start that [campaign]?’ he said with a laugh. " I would say I challenge you to get on all these socials and push for me. Get your community. I would love to. I would love to do that as Batman. I’d love any opportunity to explore new characters, to change narratives around some of these entrenched ideas of how these characters are supposed to look, sound, and perform. I’m all for it.

What will the Batman movie in the new DC Universe be like?

The film that James Gunn will include in his interconnected universe - which will include movies, series, video games, and comics - will seemingly be based on the comic ‘The Brave & The Bold’, although at the moment we know absolutely nothing beyond its title and directory. The one chosen to be behind the cameras is Andy Muschietti, who already has experience in superhero movies, specifically DC, since he also directed ‘The Flash’.

However, it will not be the only adventure of The Dark Knight that we can enjoy in the cinema, since the sequel to ‘The Batman’, by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson, is completely guaranteed, although it is not part of that universe that James Gunn has in mind. There is not much news about it either, but the rumor mill suggests that Barry Keoghan would have a more relevant role as Joker, since in the original he made a brief cameo at the end.
