Alan Wake 2 devs reveal a key inspiration from Resident Evil to make the game terrifying

Remedy Entertainment took a very specific piece of inspiration straight from the Resident Evil series to make Alan Wake 2 a true horror game.

Alan Wake 2

Remedy Entertainment is preparing for the return of one of his most beloved works with Alan Wake 2. A title of enormous weight, which in its second installment is closer to terror than ever, and one of its inspirations is a true legend of terror in the video game industry.

Resident Evil, Capcom’s outstanding survival horror series, is an important inspiration in the development of Alan Wake 2, a title that revolves more around survival horror than its previous installments. Kyle Rowley, game director, has spoken about it in an interview with EDGE magazine (via GamesRadar+): “Camera perspective and things like that, yes, there are good references from the recent Resident Evil games that we did look at. But not just because, oh, you know, it worked for them. It’s more like, how does that help us build the kind of experience we want? More claustrophobic; making the player feel more vulnerable; making the enemies feel more physical and dangerous.”

Remedy Entertainment and its inspiration for Alan Wake

The Finnish company has never hidden the fact that it is inspired by other works, always showing a clear and unique personality, but with details that evoke great entertainment products. A good example of this is the first installment of Alan Wake and its inspiration from Twin Peaks, the cult classic series created by David Lynch.

The sequel will showcase an environment reminiscent of works like True Detective. A game full of terror and mystery that will be noticed in a big way in a second part that comes after more than a decade after the first went on the market. One of the most anticipated titles of its time, which hopes to replicate or even surpass that success. Remedy Entertainment never fails to amaze, and it seems that this time it will be no different.
