Capcom

Another new Resident Evil game is coming, but it’s not what fans would expect

Capcom surprises fans with Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a mobile RTS set in the franchise’s early timeline, co-developed with Aniplex and Joycity.

Resident Evil Requiem

If Resident Evil: Requiem wasn’t enough to satisfy your zombie cravings, Capcom has just announced a second new title: Resident Evil: Survival Unit. Unlike the mainline survival horror entries, this one’s a real-time strategy game built for iOS and Android, and it’s already raising eyebrows for its bold genre shift.

What is Resident Evil: Survival Unit?

  • A mobile RTS (real-time strategy) game
  • Co-developed by Joycity (of Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War) and Aniplex, in close collaboration with Capcom
  • Described as a “survival horror strategy experience” optimized for mobile platforms
  • Set before the fall of Umbrella, possibly near the Arklay Mountains and Raccoon City
  • Features classic STARS units, squad-based tactics, and a dark, atmospheric tone

The game’s teaser artwork shows a vehicle parked in a stormy forest beside a billboard for Umbrella Corporation, hinting at a pre-Resident Evil 4 setting.

When and where can you play it?

  • Platforms: iOS and Android
  • Regions: Global release planned for Japan, South Korea, North America, Europe, and Asia
  • Showcase: A full reveal is scheduled for July 10, 2025, via YouTube
  • Release date: TBA

This marks the first real-time strategy game in the Resident Evil franchise, and Capcom says it’s designed to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers. While some fans are skeptical of the mobile format, others are intrigued by the tactical spin on the series’ iconic lore.
