Update:
Barbie

It’s one of the movies of the year, and if you don’t believe it, don’t worry, you’ll be able to see for yourself this holiday season. MAX has just confirmed the premiere date of ‘Barbie’ on streaming and the movie will act as a gift from Santa Claus and arrive on the service before Holidays

When will Barbie be available on MAX?

The Barbie movie will premiere on MAX on December 15, 2023 and is the best option for a few laughs during this Holidays.

Barbie’ wins the Barbenheimer

As our colleagues from Spain mentioned in their review of the movie, “Barbie” is an amusement park where everything fits. “Car chases, fights, choreographies and musical sequences, voiceovers, road movie moments, editing games, breaks in the fourth wall and even references to ‘The Godfather’, ‘The Matrix’, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and the best of the seventh art. Best of all, there is room for emotion and reflection in between the jokes. The movie invites us to be a little more compassionate with ourselves, to discover ourselves, to know and love ourselves, to face the fears of life and to remember that at least we are alive. A beautiful message full of light. As freeing as a session with a psychologist.

Throughout the 114-minute running time (1 hour and 54 minutes), Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are superb, proving that they have mastered all the comedic registers. Greta Gerwig’s work is no slouch either, and she deserves the same praise. With Barbie, the director of Lady Bird and Little Women has once again demonstrated her talent and ability to condense the essence of the present into stories and snippets of our past.

Will there be a sequel to Barbie?

Given the tremendous success of the movie (it is the highest grossing movie in Warner’s history, ahead of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ or ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2′), Mattel has already announced that it is working on a Barbie universe that will include more than 10 movies based on famous toys. These are the ones under consideration:

  • UNO
  • American Girl
  • Barney
  • Hot Wheels
  • Magic 8 Ball
  • Major Matt Mason
  • Masters of the Universe
  • Matchbox
  • Polly Pocket
  • Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots
  • Thomas the Tank Engine
  • View Master
  • Wishbone

As for a direct sequel, neither Greta Gerwig nor Margott Robie and Ryan Gosling seem very keen, but Mattel is not ruling anything out. Especially when there are so many famous actors who want to be part of this mass phenomenon. Cillian Murphy himself has said that after ‘Oppenheimer’ he wants to be Ken in ‘Barbie 2′.

It remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that ‘Barbie’ will be remembered as a before and after.
