Ben Affleck reveals he hated the Batsuit: “It was horrendous to wear”

The actor details the sweltering heat and discomfort of wearing the Batsuit on set.

Update:

Bringing many classic comic book elements to the big screen can be tricky, especially when it comes to superhero costumes. Not everything that works in the comics translates well to the big screen, so studios have tried to make adjustments to make them look more realistic and consistent with each film’s visual style. In the case of Batman, the evolution of the Batsuit has been constant for decades, with its small details. However, one of its most recent wearers, Ben Affleck, doesn’t have fond memories of his time in the cowl.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was blunt: he doesn’t miss the costume he wore in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and The Flash at all. In fact, he confessed to hating it.

Far from feeling heroic, he was sweating

I hated the Batsuits. The Batsuits are horrendous to wear,” he said. “They’re incredibly hot, for one thing. They don’t breathe. They’re made to look the way they want ‘em to look, and there’s no thought put into the human being. You just start sweating. Now I’m already — I sweat, you know what I mean? I get hot. And so in that thing, you would just be pouring water because it’s got the cowl over it. Like, there’s one thing to wear the suit, but once you cover your head, I guess that’s where all your heat kind of escapes and you feel it.”

Affleck explained that the Batsuit was complicated to use, with “even the most highly trained, much more fit stunt guys, the parkour guys, the action guys” struggling to wear it.

In addition to the sweltering heat, the actor pointed out that wearing the Batsuit was not only uncomfortable but also contrary to the superhero’s imagination. “It just made it difficult to make the movie because it was so hot,” he added. “Also does not make you feel very heroic because you’re instantly exhausted and really sweaty and kinda trying to hide like, the sweat pouring down your face. Like, ‘No, we can go again, I’m fine, I’m good.’ And then there’ll be like — eye black is like, running.”

In the meanwhile, we wil have to wait for a new Batman movie. Both Batman productions, The Batman II and The Brave and the Bold, got stuck in development.
