Bob Gale says goodbye to ‘Back to the Future 4′ in a blunt way: “F**k you”
One of the most influential figures in the ‘Back to the Future’ franchise is adamantly refusing to make a fourth movie.

Although fans continue to dream of a hypothetical fourth ‘Back to the Future’ movie, it seems that ‘Back to the Future 4′ will never see the light of day. Recently, Bob Gale, screenwriter and co-creator of the saga, has been very emphatic about his position on a new movie, responding with a negative and a resounding “F**k you”. So it seems that we will not see Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, who brought the lovable Marty McFly and Doc Brown to life on the big screen, in their most iconic roles.
Bob Gale, co-creator and screenwriter of the ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy, refuses to make a fourth movie
As reported by Yahoo! Entertainment, the 2025 Saturn Awards were held in Los Angeles, California in early February. Bob Gale was there to accept the Saturn in memory of George Pal on behalf of the ‘Back to the Future’ franchise, which he co-created and wrote with Robert Zemeckis. After accepting the award, Gale revealed that Michael J. Fox is writing his memoirs, which are expected to detail his experiences making the legendary trilogy.

However, and taking advantage of the opportunity, Gale was asked again about the chances of ‘Back to the Future 4′ becoming a reality. The screenwriter was very blunt and succinct in his answer: “People always say, ‘When are you going to do Back to the Future 4, and we say, ‘F*** you.’ So, my God, Back to the Future, I’m going to be doing it for the rest of my life.”
His answer contrasts sharply with that of Robert Zemeckis, the other side of the coin and the other 50% in terms of creative decisions in the Back to the Future franchise. Zemeckis has been more open to creating a fourth installment of the saga, but it would not be a conventional film or a sequel, but would adapt the official musical into a feature film format.

This difference of opinion between the two creators does not necessarily mean that they do not get along, but in fact these opposing positions make it impossible for ‘Back to the Future 4′ to get the green light. Other relevant factors that would make this new movie very difficult are the age and health of the main people involved: Gale and Zemeckis are in their seventies, Christopher Lloyd is already an octogenarian, and Michael J. Fox is in his sixties, not to mention the fact that he has been away from the acting world ever since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
