Capcom is looking to bring back as many of its “dormant” franchises as it can, with Okami and Onimusha being the first

It seems like Capcom is finally making use of its new golden age to bring back fan-favorite series back from death, like Okami, Onimusha, and more.

Capcom is one of those game studios that have been present since the early games of gaming, and as such, their library of properties is much larger than most modern fans could imagine. So now that they’re experiencing a stable wave of huge hits and popularity, it’s good to hear that they are planning on “re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.”

This was revealed in a press release the company published aimed at its investors, in which they call the upcoming Okami sequel and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, both announced during the recent gala of The Game Awards 2024 to raucous applause and cheering both in the venue and throughout the internet, only the first step towards their new goal of reviving old IP.

“The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content,” says Capcom in their press release. “Which includes reviving past IPs like [Okami and Onimusha], in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.”

It is a vast land of opportunity for Capcom and its fans

While Monster Hunter and Resident Evil have been the main breadwinners for the Japanese studio, Capcom has been adamant to let fans that they haven’t forgotten about their many titles and properties throughout the past 40 years. Not only did we recently get the incredible Dragon’s Dogma 2 and a Dead Rising remaster, but we’ve also seen classic titles being rereleased as part of the various Collection compilations.

We’ve had almost every classic Mega Man title, with only a few of its series missing (like Legends and Star Force). The entire Ace Attorney series is now available on modern platforms, and even Marvel Vs Capcom and many other fighting game series have been released. And still, there are many more franchises that could see revivals or remasters in the near future. Could we see more Devil May Cry or Dino Crisis? Perhaps a new Bionic Commando or Breath of Fire? The possibilities are very exciting.
