Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is official and introduces its new director

The memories of the release of Cyberpunk 2077 are in the past, now is the best time to enter this world. So much so that the acclaimed anime inspired by this universe, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, will finally be back, as announced during Anime Expo.

Through its panel at the Los Angeles convention, CD Projekt Red announced once again its collaboration with studio Trigger to continue the story of Edgerunners. On this occasion, it was confirmed that Kai Ikarashi, who has participated in works such as Evangelion 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time, Bocchi the Rock! and Mob Psycho 100 will be in charge of directing the show, replacing Hiroyuki Imaishi. Along with this announcement, the logo was revealed, as well as the first official poster of the work.

Imaishi also took the opportunity to officially pass the torch to Kai Ikarashi (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), who will make his directorial debut with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Ikarashi joined the panel with a recorded video message and debuted a Director’s Voice video to share more about his motivations for the anime.

What will Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 be about, and when will it be released?

“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before,” said Bartosz Sztybor, showrunner, story writer, and producer on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

For the time being, details about Edgerunners 2, as well as its release date, have not been revealed. But it is undoubtedly a great advance to know that a new installment of this universe is already in development.
