Update:

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is turning New York City upside down throughout its second season, with Mayor Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) running completely wild and doing as he pleases. Since Daredevil (Charlie Cox) himself is finding it a bit of an uphill battle fighting both Kingpin and his Brigade, in the series’ most recent episode he has received invaluable help from a beloved character he’s encountered in the past, who has returned to lend a hand.

Jessica Jones “makes her return” to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Following Vanessa’s death in the previous episode, Mayor Fisk has vowed to burn New York to the ground in order to track down both Daredevil and Bullseye, turning the entire city into a hornet’s nest. Meanwhile, Charles, the CIA agent, sends hitmen to Jessica Jones’s home because she refused to work for him. Until then, absolutely nothing was known about the superheroine’s whereabouts because she had decided to “hang up her cape” and simply devote herself to caring for her family and her daughter.

This personal attack is what prompts Jones to return to action, contacting Daredevil and helping him destroy the contraband weapons the Brigade was hiding in one of its warehouses. The sequence was action-packed, with the corrupt cops being taken down with punches and kicks, marking the first time we’ve seen the superheroine in action in seven years. That said, Jessica nearly went down in battle because her superpowers “come and go,” which is another reason she chose to remain anonymous.

Jessica Jones’ return to the MCU in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ wasn’t exactly a spoiler, since the face of her actress, Krysten Ritter, has been featured in both promotional material for the series’ new season and its official trailer. However, it was still up in the air exactly how the character would return after her own three-season Netflix series and the limited miniseries ‘The Defenders,’ where she joined forces with Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Although this Netflix “mini-universe” was always canon within the MCU, the absence of other actors from the films always gave a certain sense of isolation or self-containment. Now, with Jessica Jones’ return in a more “appropriate” manner, the door is open for her to continue appearing in new Marvel stories, whether on the big or small screen.

Although it doesn’t look like she’ll be starring in her own series—especially given Marvel’s new focus on its heavyweights, such as the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’—Jessica Jones’s return has been widely celebrated by her fans on social media. Those who enjoyed her psychological battle against Kilgrave are in for a treat, as they’ve been able to see their favorite superheroine back in action, fighting side by side with another of the most beloved faces in the current Marvel universe. Only time will tell if the House of Ideas continues to make the most of this character… or if, on the contrary, they’ll “shelve” her again for an indefinite period.
