Deadpool 3’s future is uncertain: the director doesn’t know when it will release
Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool 3, has admitted that he no longer knows when the movie will release, with the SAG-AFTRA strike still ongoing.
Shawn Levy, director of ‘Deadpool 3′, does not know if the film will make the originally planned release date: May 3, 2024. The SAG-AFTRA strike of actors (and the Writers’ strike) that took place during the summer of 2023 has paralyzed the production of many projects , which includes the long-awaited third part of ‘Deadpool’, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
The release date of ‘Deadpool 3′ is in serious danger and the film could suffer another delay according to its own director
In an interview with The Wrap/Yahoo Sports about his new Netflix miniseries ‘All the Light We Cannot See,” Shawn Levy has stated that he does not know if ‘Deadpool 3′ will be ready for May 3, 2024, the date on which it was originally going to have been released in theaters. Shawn Levy directs ‘Deadpool 3′ and has participated with Ryan Reynolds in other projects such as ‘Free Guy’ (2021) and ‘The Adam Project’ (2022). He is also known for directing and producing several films in the ‘Night at the Museum’ saga, and for producing ‘Stranger Things’.
In the interview, Levy comments that half of Deadpool 3 has already been shot and edited. “I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3,” said the director in the same interview. “Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”
The future of ‘Deadpool 3′ is unclear. Marvel has been one of the most affected by the strikes of actors and scriptwriters of SAG-AFTRA during the summer of 2023, having to paralyze and delay many of its productions, including ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ and ‘Blade’.
