Disney is so confident in its ‘Lilo & Stitch’ live-action remake, that it’s already planning a sequel

‘Lilo & Stitch’ is set to dominate the box office, the studio is so confident in the remake’s success that discussions for a follow-up have already begun.

Lilo y Stitch

The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch hit theaters this week, continuing Disney’s push for live-action adaptations of its animated classics.

Despite the box-office failure of ‘Snow White’, Disney remains fully confident in ‘Lilo & Stitch.’ According to The Wall Street Journal, the studio expects the film to outperform ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’, which premieres the same weekend.

In fact, Disney is so optimistic that it has already begun planning a sequel, even before the film’s official release.

Disney’s confidence backed by strong numbers

Alan Bergman, co-president of Disney Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm:

“It looks like it’s going to perform very well, and it’s the kind of property that lends itself to more.”

The marketing campaign has played a huge role in this confidence, with Stitch plush toys selling out and merchandise—including dog collars and turbans—flying off shelves.

‘Lilo & Stitch’ has become one of Disney’s top 10 most profitable franchises, further reinforcing the studio’s belief in its success.

Pre-sales indicate a massive opening

The live-action remake has already sold over 80,000 tickets in Spain before its official release.

The film follows a mischievous alien who crash-lands on Earth and becomes the perfect companion for a young Hawaiian girl and her older sister.

With strong pre-sales, high merchandising revenue, and Disney’s unwavering confidence, ‘Lilo & Stitch’ is poised to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
