Elden Ring Nightreign explains why it can be played solo or in groups of three, but not as a duo
Remember that next Friday, January 10, you can sign up for the game’s beta to test it before its release.
Ever since Elden Ring Nightreign was announced, there has been a question on many players' minds: why isn’t it possible to play with a friend in duo mode? It is a logical question, since From Software’s decision is aimed at trios; games formed by teams of three players and, surprisingly, it is also designed to be played alone. So why one and three yes, but two no? This has caused some controversy, as it is more common to have one friend available than two, so many will have no choice but to find an extra player through matchmaking.
Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki explained the reason for this decision to IGN, although it doesn’t seem to have convinced fans waiting for the game’s release. “This was largely a game balancing decision, rather than a game design decision. So it came as development progressed. You know, we found that while we wanted each player to have that sense of accomplishment, that sense of rewarding co-op gameplay, this was like a sweet spot with three players in order for it not to feel too overwhelming or too busy.”” The director ends by saying that the three players felt like that “sweet spot” in the experience.
