Final Fantasy IX turns 25: Here’s everything Square Enix has announced for the anniversary
Square Enix is celebrating FFIX’s 25th anniversary in style, announcing new merchandise and collectibles including plush toys, art books, a new soundtrack and more.

Final Fantasy IX (2000) was one of the most emblematic titles of the original Sony PlayStation. As such, the adventure of Zidane and company is well remembered, especially by those who enjoyed it at the time. Although it does not have the same historical significance as the celebrated seventh installment of the saga, this title will turn 25 years old in July 2025, so Square Enix has already begun preparations to celebrate the anniversary in style. For now, they have opened an official website dedicated to the quarter century of this video game, anticipating the arrival of all kinds of merchandising and other collaborations.
Square Enix offers a preview of the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX: Here’s what to expect
As of March 31, 2025, the official website for the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX will be open. Square Enix has created this portal to take advantage of the ephemeris: the game was originally released in Japan on July 7, 2000. In this new website we can find all kinds of merchandising, such as figurines and plushies of some of the characters, like Yitan, Vivi, Garnet or Steiner. There are also art books with illustrations and concept art from the game, and a new compilation of the game’s soundtrack, including a new version of “Melodies of Life,” one of the game’s most emblematic themes.

At the moment, these products are exclusive to Square Enix’s Japanese store, although given the game’s worldwide popularity, it is expected that they will also reach other territories, including Europe. Prices for the plush toys start at 4,400 yen, or about $29 at the exchange rate, while other items such as the new soundtrack cost 4,950 yen, or about $32.
However, even though it seems that there are more elements to be announced before July, when the anniversary will be celebrated, it is advisable to moderate expectations. Regardless of the rumors that have been running for years, there are no solid indications that the company will announce a remake in the style of Final Fantasy VII, released in 2020. For now, the Japanese developer is reportedly focused on finishing the story of the remakes of the seventh installment before focusing on new remakes of other classic titles.
With this initiative, Square Enix shows that it has not forgotten one of the most emblematic titles of the PSX era.verga
