Fortnite really wants to do a Nintendo Collaboration, but getting one is almost impossible
Epic Games is not shy about its desire to do a crossover with Nintendo and their characters, which they think fans would love. But actually getting one is difficult.
Fortnite, the Epic Games phenomenon, has basically become a catwalk for the most popular things in entertainment to flaunt their stuff. Iconic stars such as Goku, Darth Vader, Kratos, Aloy, Lara Croft, and Naruto have joined their games, but some of the most legendary characters in video games, those from Nintendo, are missing from the parade. Neither Mario nor Princess Peach, nor Donkey Kong or Samus Aran. Not even Link has boasted a sword in the fashionable battle royale. And yet, the studio behind it would very much like to feature some of these protagonists.
“Nintendo has their strategy and we have our strategy, and we hope at some point [to use their characters]. Our players would love it” said Saxs Persson, from Epic Games, in statements to Axios Gaming.
Samus Aran was planned for Fortnite
A document dated June 2020 revealed that Epic Games had planned to include both Master Chief (Halo) and Kratos (God of War), characters who indeed debuted in Fortnite. However, those plans also included Samus Aran, the protagonist of Metroid. , so everything seems to indicate that it never materialized past an idea.
Nintendo has always been very protective of its intellectual properties, so it tends to supervise and control everything related to its brands. An example of this is the film adaptations of their licenses, in which they intervene directly. Both Super Mario Bros. The Movie and the future The Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation have been developed under the supervision of the ever-vigilant Shigeru Miyamoto.
Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and iOS and Android mobile devices. Epic Games has experienced a year full of problems, which have led to the dismissal of thousands of workers, in line with other companies in the video game and technology industry.
