From cleaning the streets to singing about The Last of Us. This is Macario and his unique song about the series
“Si te mentí”: Macario Martínez’s emotional song that captures the essence of The Last of Us.

Music and The Last of Us, this connection is absolutely undeniable and we have it both in the game and in the series. One of the curious details that emerged with the arrival of the second season of The Last of Us was the Latin American promotion featuring Mexican singer Macario Martinez.
Through the official account of Max Latin America, an official video has been released with the song “Si te mentí” (“I lied to you”), created especially for the series and also inspired by the song Future Days, which appears in The Last of Us Part II. It is also inspired by the relationship between the main characters, Joel and Ellie, reaching more than 40 thousand reproductions.
This is what Macario Martínez’s song is all about
Beginning like the Pearl Jam song, but in Spanish, “Si te mentí” also tries to explore Joel’s moral dilemma in his decision to protect Ellie. The song is a folk mix that creates a connection that is very much in line with the elements of the game, but gives it a special twist. This phenomenon demonstrates the power of music to transcend boundaries and connect people from different cultures.
Who is Macario Martínez?
Macario Martínez, a 23-year-old from Veracruz, is living a very different present than he did months ago, when he made his living sweeping streets for Mexico City’s sanitation department.
He went viral in early 2025 when he posted a video on TikTok of himself singing “Sueña lindo, corazón” while at work. “Life asks a lot and I’m just a street sweeper asking you to listen to his music,” he wrote in the clip.
