In an interview with Variety, Neil Druckmann commented on various aspects of the second season of the series, and of course, the interviewer asked him the million dollar question: will he ever make The Last of Us 3? The answer was a bucket of cold water for fans, as the creative leader of Naughty Dog left the future of the series up in the air.

I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.” A statement as terse as it is, in principle, forceful in this regard, since going from slipping that there are plans for a new game to inviting us not to expect anything more is not exactly what fans of Ellie, Joel, and company wanted to hear.
