Goodbye to the old Nintendo Switch menu: Here’s what the new Nintendo Switch 2 menu will look like
“Same, same, but different”, would be an accurate description of the Switch 2’s new user interface.

Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 was officially revealed, there are a lot of answered questions, like what the mysterious “C Button” does, the price of the console and games, and the main differences to its predecessor. There was also great news about the game lineup, Mario Kart World was revealed, along with Donkey Kong Bananza, and a lot of others, like a surprising exclusive developed by From Software.
Among all of that, the new user interface was revealed as well, at least some of it. The Nintendo Switch 2’s home interface builds on the original Switch’s design with some notable upgrades. The layout remains familiar, featuring game icons arranged in a row, with the most recently played game displayed first. However, the icons now have rounded edges, giving the interface a sleeker look.

System applications, such as Nintendo Switch Online, GameChat, Game News, Photos and Videos, and Settings, are grouped together in a single tablet for easier access. The eShop icon has been updated to a red theme, replacing the iconic orange from previous consoles.
A new addition is the GameChat icon, which allows players to access social features directly from the home menu without pressing the now famous “C Button”. The interface has been optimized for the Switch 2’s larger 7.9-inch display, ensuring a smooth and visually appealing experience.

A very exciting feature that still remains unconfirmed, but seems to be ready to be implemented, is the customization via themes, like what could be seen in the Nintendo 3DS. While Nintendo explained the video quality features, they showed the Settings screen, where a “Themes” tab can be seen. If it is what we think, users will probably like to have the choice back to personalize the look and feel of their system.

The tab is there in the Switch 1, but it only contains two options, the day and the night themes, so it looks clear or dark, but who knows, maybe Nintendo will bring that beloved feature back with more customization options.
And lastly, it will obviously change how players’ game collection’s look, because of Nintendo’s new Virtual Game Card system.
