GTA 6 and GTA 5 comparison: Rockstar’s graphical upgrades after 10 years

Fans have already begun comparing the graphics of the GTA 6 trailer with its predecessor, and the upgrade makes it clear it’s been two generations between them.

The return of Grand Theft Auto now has a date: 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. GTA 6 has managed to shake up the industry during the final month of the year with a first trailer that shows the strength of the current generation of consoles.

Although it has not been stated whether what is shown in the trailer is real-time or in-engine prerenders, the truth is that Rockstar Games’ history with the franchise has always maintained an honest line in this regard. The story of Lucia and Jason aims to look spectacular just from what we’ve seen, with incredible looking models for the inhabitants of Vice City, a larger variety of body shapes and styles, and uncannily realistic looking textures and physics.

A user on YouTube that goes by the name Cycu1, has made the comparison that we all expected: GTA 5 and GTA 6 face to face, set to figure out just how much the graphics have changed. The first with the muscle that it offers running the PC version at 4K; the other, however, with only the first images that Rockstar Games has shown off in its trailer.

As expected from a 10 year gap between both releases, the difference is staggering: a leap of two generations of consoles and plenty of new technology that reminds us that GTA 5 was originally an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title. Let’s not forget that Grand Theft Auto 5 launched back in 2013, back when things like Ray Tracing was little more than sci-fi.
