It’s no secret that Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated video games of all time. Although Rockstar Games has already given a definitive release date of May 26, 2026, Tom Henderson, a renowned journalist and insider, believes there could be a further delay due to the ambition seen in the game’s second trailer. According to Henderson, there are “rumors” that the game will not be released in May next year, meaning that GTA 6 would have to delay its release until October 2026.

Even though Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, is confident that there will be no further delays for GTA 6, industry gossip suggests otherwise. In early September 2025, Tom Henderson, a renowned journalist and insider who has provided scoops on titles and series such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, and GTA 6 itself over the past few years, commented on a podcast about this highly anticipated open-world title: “I don’t think that it is gonna release in May; I’ve heard rumblings.” Although there is no solid information at this time, Henderson believes that where there’s smoke, there’s fire, as revealed by GameRant.
Instead, the journalist commented that a release date of October 2026 seems plausible, although this is mere speculation. Even so, this information conflicts with that provided by YouTuber Luke Stephens, who claims to have an inside source at the studio. Stephens asserts that Rockstar is confident it can meet the established release date of May 2026, so in principle, barring a last-minute disaster, the latest official information should be taken at face value.
GTA 6 isn’t the first major Rockstar Games release to suffer a delay. Titles of the caliber of Grand Theft Auto V (2013) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) have already had to postpone their initial release dates. The company has always maintained that delaying games has a single purpose: to offer the most polished and ambitious experiences possible, with no room for annoying bugs that mar the gaming experience.
