Hayden Christensen explains why Ewan McGregor should return to Star Wars as Obi-Wan
Ewan McGregor has just received a Hollywood star, and both he and his Star Wars co-star, Hayden Christensen, would like him to continue playing Obi-Wan.
Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen had the opportunity to meet again in ‘Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi’, a limited series that currently does not have a second season, although the leading actor has been open to returning as the character and has confessed that he is looking forward to it. McGregor received a Hollywood star accompanied by the actor behind Anakin Skywalker, who made a touching speech in tribute to McGregor. In a very personal and emotional story, Christensen has praised the figure of the Scottish actor and has shared his thoughts on the possible return of the Jedi master.
“He wasn’t just playing Obi-Wan, he was Obi-Wan. I mean, he is Obi Wan. And I really hope we get more Obi-Wan, because this man is just ‘Star Wars’ gold... So, my friend Ewan, I want to thank you for being the best Jedi Master that anyone could have ever hoped for. You always had my back and I thank you for that. I’m just so happy to get to be here with you right now. It’s been an honour and a thrill to get to work with you, and swing a lightsaber with you, and more than all of it, call you my friend. I love you, brother”
More Obi-Wan Kenobi Stories
In a recent interview, Ewan McGregor stated that he has not tired of the role yet and that he hopes to return in the future, since there are still stories of the character to tell. After all, we’re a decade away from the start of ‘A New Hope’ and the Jedi surely wasn’t a full-time hermit. Furthermore, Lucasfilm originally conceived his story as a movie trilogy (with the story of the series being only the first one).
The two actors met during the recording of ‘Episode II: Attack of the Clones’, a film that takes place about 10 years after ‘The Phantom Menace’. Both that film and the next one, ‘Revenge of the Sith’, narrate the progressive fall of Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, which concludes with the birth of Darth Vader and the destruction of the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. A decade later the series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ takes place, which shows the reunion between master and apprentice. The duel is repeated and the Sith fails to defeat the veteran Jedi, who returns to his humble home on Tatooine.
Sadly, this very week James Earl Jones passed away. He was the iconic voice of Darth Vader for almost half a century.
