He could’ve easily defeated Thanos, but died just before Avengers: Infinity War at the hands of his daughter

Thanos was one of the most formidable villains in the MCU, but according to a theory gaining traction, there was one character who could have easily defeated him, if only he had survived long enough. That character? Odin, the All-Father.

Why Odin could have stopped Thanos

Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins, was one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His Odinforce granted him immense mystical abilities, including the power to banish gods, manipulate life energy, and wield dark magic. Some fans speculate that Thanos waited for Odin’s death before beginning his quest for the Infinity Stones, knowing that the All-Father was one of the few beings capable of stopping him.

Unfortunately, Odin passed away in Thor: Ragnarok, leaving Asgard vulnerable and allowing Thanos to seize the Space Stone from Loki shortly after.

How did Odin die?

Odin’s death wasn’t a result of battle—it was a peaceful passing, but one that had devastating consequences. His daughter, Hela, was released upon his death, immediately overpowering Thor and Loki and leading to the destruction of Asgard.

Had Odin lived, he could have potentially prevented Thanos from gathering the Infinity Stones, altering the course of Infinity War entirely.

While Odin’s absence paved the way for Thanos’ conquest, his legacy remains one of the most significant in the MCU. His power, wisdom, and influence shaped the fate of Asgard and the universe itself. If he had survived just a little longer, the battle against Thanos might have played out very differently.
