How much space will Final Fantasy VII Rebirth take on PlayStation 5?

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is almost here, so it’s about time we make some space on our consoles to be able to install the game. But just how big is it?

Update:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

On February 29, 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will finally be released on PlayStation 5. The newest title in the FFVII remake trilogy has taken a few years to arrive, and with it adapting the wide open world of Gaia were the majority of the original game takes place, some have wondered just how much space it’ll actually take on your console.

The answer, unfortunately, is quite a lot. If you wish to install or download Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it’ll take up 145.7 gigabytes out of your PS5′s SSD. That is a massive amount that almost reaches the sizes of something like the Call of Duty franchise. Certainly a first for the RPG genre, this doesn’t even take into account the day-one patches that are sure to be available on the same day of its release, which may cause that number to grow even more.

For comparison, the last Final Fantasy title of the series, FF XVI, was a whopping 90 GB in size. The previous iteration of this trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Remake, was around 70 GB, which went up to 81 GB when coupled with the Intergrade DLC.

The fate of the Planet is in your hands

The size of the game is quite huge, but it’s a sacrifice everyone who wants to play this next chapter in the FFVII trilogy will have to pay. The question now becomes, is it worth it having to delete other games in your PS5? Well, we believe it is.

Thanks to Square Enix, we here at MeriStation also got to play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ahead of its release. In our review we delved deep into the best parts of the game, but didn’t shy away from calling out some of the biggest issues with the title as well. We stated that “when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is at its best, it shines brighter than many other titles currently on the market. Its production values are unimaginably high, with fantastic graphics and highly detailed models that beautifully render classic characters in a whole new light. Its combat is absolutely thrilling when it takes place in a well-paced dungeon, and the 4-act format to boss encounters is back to keep you on your toes with some of the most involved fights RPGs have ever had.”
