Update:
Is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth a sequel? Everything you need to know about the release of the latest Final Fantasy

We are just a few days away from the release of one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the new adventure from Square Enix that brings the classic 1997 game back to life for a new generation. If you have any doubts about this game, now is the time to put them to rest.

Is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth a sequel?

Yes and it should be clarified that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is part of a trilogy started with Final Fantasy VII Remake, released in 2020. This is a kind of reinterpretation of the PlayStation 1 classic, with some changes in the events of the original story, but at the same time giving it a flavor of its own. Cloud, Tifa, Aerith and company are back, still facing Shinra, Sephiroth is also present... but all with a twist.

Can you play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth without having played FF VII Remake?

One of the perennial questions many will have is whether they can play this installment without having played either the original 1997 version or the first part of this new trilogy. The short answer is yes. The longer answer can be found here, where co-director Motomu Toriyama gives more details.

When and on which consoles will Final Fantasy VII Rebirth be released?

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on a very special date: February 29, 2024. Nothing like releasing a game in a leap year. On the other hand, this game will be coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 (for now). If you are looking for information about the different editions, you can find it here.

What are the critics saying about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

The first reviews for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have been released this week, and it’s no surprise that the game is receiving such high ratings. On the aggregator site Metacritic, Square Enix’s latest game currently has a score of 93 out of 119 reviews, which is much higher than its predecessor.

On the other hand, we also have our opinion about this game, where our Mike Reyes said that: “When Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is at its best, it shines brighter than many other titles currently on the market. Its production values are unimaginably high, with fantastic graphics and highly detailed models that beautifully render classic characters in a whole new light. Its combat is absolutely thrilling when it takes place in a well-paced dungeon, and the 4-act format to boss encounters is back to keep you on your toes with some of the most involved fights RPGs have ever had.”

Is there a way to play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in advance?

Unfortunately, no. What you can do is download the special demo that has been available on PlayStation 5 for a few weeks now. In addition to getting a sneak peek at the story of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith and company, you will also find a few Easter eggs and be able to share some of your saved data once you have the final version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
