‘Hunter x Hunter’ brings back one of the most iconic duos in manga history after 14 years

The return of ‘Hunter x Hunter’ to the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump is one of the biggest news stories of the summer. Yoshihiro Togashi’s series has resumed publication after yet another of its usual hiatuses, and in the most recent chapter, it has brought back the series’ most iconic duo and one of the most beloved friendships in manga history.
Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck reappear at the end of the chapter, marking their first appearance together in the manga in over a decade. It’s been a long time since we last heard from two of the most important characters in ‘Hunter x Hunter,’ and it is precisely this long absence that demonstrates the richness of a story that has managed to maintain interest without constantly relying on its main characters.
A Long-Awaited Return in ‘Hunter x Hunter’
The manga is currently in the midst of the succession arc, which takes place aboard the gigantic ship Black Whale as it heads toward the Dark Continent. Kurapika has fewer and fewer options left to protect a newborn prince, but he mentions that he still has friends he can trust. That’s when the chapter shows Gon and Killua, each in a different location, leaving the impression that their return to the center of the story is getting closer and closer.
